The fifteen-hour program designed for medical professionals will include: Foundations of Financial Planning, Managing Basic Assets, Managing Credit, Managing Insurance Needs, Managing Investments, and Retirement and Estate Planning. The curriculum will be free to Fund recipients but must be completed by graduation. This program will provide medical students with a higher degree of financial acumen with the skills necessary to save more, invest more, and do more throughout their careers.
If a recipient changes careers after receiving some or all of their medical school tuition, they will be contractually obligated to make annual 1.0% gross income payments to the Fund until all monies they received have been repaid and for ten years thereafter.
It is common knowledge that currently only five percent of practicing physicians in the U.S. are Black, while Black people make up 13 percent of the U.S. population. The Break The Cycle Fund aims to increase intergenerational black wealth and address systemic underinvestment in Black communities.
